Tomorrow night is New Year’s Eve. I’m not really one for making New Year’s resolutions. Most don’t get kept, and really, I don’t have a lot of things I think I need to change. Although I’m sure others would disagree.
Since I had none that were popping into my head, I looked up the top ten most common resolutions for the new year. I ended up with a number of things to consider, but not much to appeal to me. Some of them just don’t sound like much fun, to be honest.
First on the list was exercise more. I might be able to try a bit of that, but it seems like work. And I already get a bit of exercise. Although maybe not as much as I should. But again, doesn’t sound like fun, or something I am likely to follow through on.
Lose weight was number two. Already did that a few years ago. When I reached a point where I couldn’t tie my shoes and breathe at the same time I figured it was time to shed some pounds. It was cheaper than buying new shoes.
Number three was get organized. I like to say I thrive on chaos, so I’d prefer to continue that way.
Learn a new skill or hobby was next on the list. But that would mean spending less time on current hobbies, and I like those. So I’ll cross that one off, too.
The fifth, although this is begging to feel like the twelve days of Christmas, was live life to the fullest. Just what does that mean? If someone would kindly provide me with some winning lottery numbers, I’m sure I could make that work for me, but that’s not likely to happen. Although I can keep buying tickets. You never know.
The sixth resolution on the most common list was save more money or spend less money. Have you been to a grocery store, or for that matter, any sort of store lately? Not happening.
Seven is quit smoking. Already did that. Put a big ol’ check mark by that one.
Spend more time with family and friends is at the number eight spot. I do okay on that front and a lot of it has to do with those family and friends having the time to spend with me. Although I suppose I might work on that a bit.
Number nine was travel more. I’d rather not. Too many crazy people out there. Not that we don’t have our share here, at home, but I sort of used to them. Although if that lottery win does happen I might change my mind. But it does kind of conflict with the saving money one.
Finally on the list was read more. I already read a fair amount. Although I tend to fall asleep when I read. But I can always use a nap.
Maybe that’s it. Pretend to read and nap more. Dream about travelling and living life to the fullest.
But when you get right down to it, there is only one resolution I’ve ever really kept. There was one year I vowed to not make any more New Year’s resolutions. I guess this is not the year to break that one.
