Heather McCallum, Communications Director for the town says they have consulted with an arborist who told them that the trees are suffering from a fungus.
The arborist advised the town that the fungus affects both Black and White Ash trees but they should be able to recover from it in time.
McCallum says upon learning that they are now advising residents to hold off on cutting down any Ash trees, so as to give them a chance to naturally recover.
Arborists will continue to monitor the infected trees in the coming months, and if you believe you have an infected tree on your property it’s asked that you contact the town.
While examing trees around town the arborist also confirmed that there was no evidence of the Emerald Ash Borer in town which is an invasive species that has decimated Ash populations in communities around the province.
