Over the long weekend, the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre (LCLC) hosted its first full-scale concert since the initial outbreak of COVID-19 as they welcomed Juno award-winning artist Kim Mitchell to town.
LCLC General Manager Kent Walsh says that throughout the day they overcame many challenges presented to them and managed to get through the event without any hitches.
“It was kind of a blur from 10 a.m. on Friday on, lots of running around to make sure everything was in order especially since this was a new experience for most of our staff,” Walsh said.
With the pandemic derailing most full-scale events at the venue for the past two years Walsh says a large portion of the staff hadn’t worked on what he would consider “busy” nights.
“It was a good opportunity to get people trained on our systems and show them what goes into an event like this, things like setting up signs, extra POS systems, and lots of other things that we haven’t had to do through the pandemic,” said Walsh. “It was a good chance to create some institutional knowledge and get it back to the levels it needs to be at.”.
As for the concert itself, Walsh says Mitchell put on a great performance that was enjoyed by all in attendance, “He sounded great, the production quality was high and overall I think everyone that came had a great time,”.
Final numbers are still not in but Walsh estimates they sold between 650-700 tickets.
The LCLC will now shift gears for their next upcoming events which are sports-related. In September they will host a running race as well as the Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup.
Walsh says they are also working on booking another concert for February and he says they will be looking to bring a different genre of music than Mitchell who performs classic rock.
