NSLC has announced it will open 14 new cannabis store locations across the province.
Mahone Bay and Liverpool will have their existing NSLC stores renovated to facilitate cannabis sales. This will make accessibility to legal cannabis easier for customers in more rural areas.
Beverley Ware, NSLC Spokesperson said this will ensure a safe and secure supply of the product, and help prevent minors from accessing the product.
“It’s extremely important that we improve access so that customers have the opportunity to purchase legal cannabis as opposed to purchasing on the illicit market,” she said.
The NSLC conducted careful research into the logistics of selling cannabis before legalization, but Ware said that there was no known legal market in Canada to determine the level of interest.
“We took a cautious approach to get a feel of what the market would be like and knew that we would build on our network from there,” she said.
All locations are expected to open by March 2021, and requests for proposals will be put forward in two months.
