Perhaps because of my radio job, I can’t sleep with music playing in the background. Everytime a song ends I wake up! But I like some ambient background noise to lull me to sleep. I tried ASMR but all that whispering creeps me out. Then I tried joining audible.com and listening to audiobooks. I must say the app for audible is really handy it even has a sleep timer built in that you can set. But the only trouble is that it works too well – I fall asleep within two minutes, so it takes me a couple of months get through one audiobook. I now have a backlog of audiobooks that I will probably never get to, and the subscription keeps adding more credits to my account. Cancellation is coming!
I’ve finally found the perfect answer for my sleeping needs. Podcasts. I tried gaming podcasts but if the material is too interesting it has the opposite effect – it keeps me awake and listening.
So I looked for a podcast on something I care little about. True crime was out, even though those types of podcasts are everywhere now. I get too invested in the stories.
I finally found the perfect podcast that puts me to sleep within minutes. It’s a two person Australian podcast about the paranormal called Mysterious Universe. Now, I have no belief in UFO’s or the paranormal, but do find it slightly interesting or perhaps I should say amusing. I’ve learned about all the conspiracy theories, crackpots and lunatics that inhabit our planet. I’ve also learned about the Mothman, the Sasquatch and more alien stories than you can imagine!
The only down side is that I’m always looking up at the sky for black helicopters (which by the way are aliens or chameleons from another dimension) but the podcast works like a charm and puts me to sleep in less than ten minutes.
