A Lunenburg video game studio has announced the company has a new leader.
James Seaboyer has stepped in as CEO of HB Studios as of Nov. 15th, replacing former CEO Alan Bunker.
Seaboyer joined the studio fresh out of college in 2007 and has spent the last decade passionately working on large EA and 2K sports titles.
He said his love for sports and natural instinct to lead made the move to CEO organic, and hopes his skills will prove beneficial to the studio.
“I’m someone who really likes to lean into the skills and experiences other people have,” he said.
“I’m very open to listening to other peoples’ ideas and opinions and I’m particularly interested in data. I think a gut feeling is good, but hard data is always best.”
When it comes to the future of HB Studios, he said he would like to see it grow more than it already has, in both its Lunenburg headquarters and its Halifax satellite studio.
Seaboyer also offered a bit of advice for those seeking a career in the video game industry, suggesting they really apply themselves to their work and research the roles they would like to place themselves in.
“I think that allows you to understand the types of jobs that are available and what people who are hiring are looking for,” he said.
“You can really see a difference in how people prepare and cater their materials to the job depending on the research they do.”
