Summer arrives today!!! FINALLY!!!
There’s no better place to spend Summer than the South Shore! Between the beautiful beaches, terrific festivals, and extremely friendly people… it’s not hard to see why our streets are starting to flood with tourists!
But what’s going on for Summer 2019!?
A LOT!!!
PRIVATEER DAYS (JUNE 21-23): Summer 2019 kicks off with a massive party in Liverpool! Privateer Days returns this year with all your favourite events, including the Parade, a Haunted Hike, live entertainment, and Pirates in the Park! Plus, check out new events that include a Soap Box Derby, Teen Arcade Zone, Halifax Circus Performers, and The Parade of Boats Friday night at Fort Point! This event holds a special place in my heart. While growing up, my family would make the trip to Liverpool to visit my Grandparents, watch the parade, and because I was at my Grandparents, I was even got to stay up late for the fireworks! I’m sure some more lifelong memories will be made this weekend in Liverpool for those of all ages!
CANADA DAY ON THE SOUTH SHORE: Every community on the South Shore celebrates Canada’s Birthday in their own unique ways! Some highlights this year include:
- New Ross Canada Day Festivities
- Canada Day on the Lahave in Bridgewater
- Lockeport & Area Canada Day Celebrations
- Chester Harbour Parade of Lights – July 1st at dusk

SOUTH SHORE EX (July 23-28): Rides, Animals, and Shows! The Big Ex returns for another year of “Summer Sun & Country Fun” July 23-28 in Bridgewater! Don’t miss forget to show up early for the Grand Street Parade to get a good spot!
SHELBURNE FOUNDERS DAY (July 19-21): Every year, History comes alive at Shelburne Founders Day! Between historical re-enactments, live shows, kids activities, and more! There’s always something fun for all ages at Shelburne Founders Days!
HONEYMOON SUITE IN LIVERPOOL (August 25): Relive the 80’s with HONEYMOON SUITE playing Queens Place Emera Centre! Tickets are on sale now, with TEAZE opening and featuring a the MATT MINGLEWOOD BAND!

HIT THE BEACH: Summers on the South Shore are best spent by the water! I have fond memories growing up and swimming at Hunts Point Beach every Summer… and I plan to continue that this year! Here are a few of the beaches you may be taking a dip in on hot, hot summer afternoons!

VISIT HISTORIC DOWNTOWN LUNENBURG: A visit here will always light up your Instagram with shots of colourful buildings, the harbour, and world class shops! Visiting Downtown Lunenburg is always a worthy way to spend the day! If you want to spot the Bluenose II, you’ll have to plan your visit after September 12th when it’s scheduled to return!
KING STREET, BRIDGEWATER: Haven’t stopped by King Street in awhile? It’s worth the trip! From new tap rooms, new places to eat, farmers markets and Pijinuiskaq Park, the vibe is much different than it was a few years ago… and it’s a vibe worth checking out!
SHELBURNE COUNTY: For those in Lunenburg and Queens, it may have been awhile since you visited Shelburne County. Change that this summer!!! I had the pleasure of visiting the area for a week during our ‘CKBW Loves Shelburne’ event earlier in the year, and there is lots to see, do, and most importantly… EAT in Shelburne! You can make it your summer oasis and escape for some me time, visit the charming shops, or join the party during Shelburne Founders Days!
