Kids in Lunenburg could soon have a new way to cool off in the summer.
Co-chairs of the community group Melissa Duggan and Marc Breaugh presented their plan to Town Council at last night’s meeting.
The proposed water park would replace the aging playground in 250th Anniversary Park, situated behind the Fire Department.
The group’s Marc Breaugh says the area is ideal.
“There’s a big space for this sort of infrastructure that is: A, free. B, keeps people cool and C, is within proximity to the town.”
Duggan says the community is behind the idea.
“Since we moved here, we’ve been here for six years, I’ve heard a number of different parents talking about wanting a splash pad and what that would look like. So Marc and I, one day were talking and said, let’s take this on.”
The group will continue working with town staff to look at infrastructure requirements and funding options.
They hope to begin construction as soon as those details can be worked out.
The initial price of the splash pad is tagged at $195,000.
Duggan and Breaugh say they have the support of many businesses in Lunenburg.
They’re also looking for the town to help apply for government funding to cover much of the cost.
They hope to begin construction as soon as those details can be worked out.
Mayor Rachel Bailey was excited to see so many young families at the meeting to show their support.
She says council likes the overall plan but they need to see more detail before it can go ahead.
