A large number of people were at Lunenburg Town Council demanding action on the wastewater plant.
The smell from the plant has been problematic for many residents for years.
Council will spend $54,000 to have a biofilter designed to reduce the smell at the facility.
Mayor Rachel Bailey says the public input made a difference.
“Whenever there’s public who have a legitimate and a very serious concern in front of us, hopefully that injects some sense of urgency into what we do as well.”
Complaints have been voiced across social media about odours coming from the facility.
Mayor Rachel Bailey wants people to know council heard their concerns.
“Having members of the public express the personal impact that this issue has been having on them and their quality of life in the community was definitely helpful in making sure that action was taken.”
The earliest the filter is expected to be installed would be next summer.
Until then, staff have made changes to how the pumping stations are cleaned in the hopes of reducing the smells.
