It’s been a little more than a year since life changed for Connor Hirtle.
The 22 year-old ‘incomplete’ quadriplegic from Dublin Shore still remembers July 11, 2015 and what happened while camping on Prince Edward Island.
He decided to jump in a swimming pool when he hit his head on the bottom and broke his neck.
Hirtle says he is hopeful to one day be able to walk again.
“Definitely going to take some effort and hope for the best and hope something will come along to help me get through this.”
Hirtle says he’s thankful for the community support over the last year.
“Just at a loss for words for it cause you’re just overwhelmed with the support there has been. I don’t know how much I can say thank you but I thank everybody for what they have done for us and myself.”
Hirtle says he does experience some bad days but adds, he tries to stay positive that things will get better.
He has moved back to Halifax to attend Mount Saint Vincent in September.

During the South Shore Exhibition, Hirtle was also recognized by Country music star, Chad Brownlee.
