Today is the deadline to contribute to your RRSP.
Darryl LeBlanc, branch manager of Coastal Financial Credit Union in West Pubnico, Yarmouth County, says folks have a few hours left to pump money into their RRSP.
But the deadline is quickly approaching.
“They actually do have until midnight tonight if they can find someone to do RRSP’s after the institutions are closed”
LeBlanc says they’d like to see more people contributing however that’s not the case with only about 20 percent of the branch’s membership making regular RRSP contributions.
He says it’s important for folks, especially young people, to plan ahead for retirement.
“There’s all sorts of unexpected things that can place throughout life and the more you can save, it will make it easier for retirement.”
LeBlanc says you don’t want to be dependent solely on what the government is going to provide you in regards to income.
And, remember, April 30 is the deadline to file your 2017 personal income tax.
