Preparations for tomorrow’s big storm continue.
Nova Scotia Power says they are rolling out the biggest pre-storm mobilization of personnel and resources in the company’s history.
This includes 1,000 people dedicated to storm response such as frontline crews, damage assessors, planners, engineers, support staff and customer care representatives.
The company has even called in crews from as far away as Hydro Quebec.
The Emergency Operations Centre will open tonight at 8, which will act as NSP’s nerve centre for outage restoration planning and response.
President and CEO of NSP Karen Hutt says this will be a bigger storm than the one that hit the province on Christmas Day.
Hutt says tomorrow’s storm could be the most damaging to hit the provionce since Post-Tropical Storm Arthur in 2014, with wind gusts along Southwestern Nova Scotia expected to hit 140 km/h by tomorrow afternoon.
She says customers should be prepared for power outages lasting into the weekend or early next week.
Nova Scotia Power is opening four payment depots, including the one in Shelburne starting tomorrow from 8am-8pm.
Citizens will be able to warm up, have coffee or hot chocolate and re-charge their devices.
