It’s looked at as a way to bring awareness to a concerning issue for students. The Canadian Federation of Students – Nova Scotia chapter will launch a campaign around mental health on college and university campuses this week. They’re concerned about the rising costs of post-secondary education and the way it’s impacting the health of Nova Scotians. Chair Anna Dubinski says higher tuition is tough on students. She says, “That means more students are working part-time jobs, sometimes multiple part-time jobs while being a full-time student and that actually creates more stress for students and can add to or trigger even more mental health issues.” Dubinski says universities and the Nova Scotia government are approving fee increases year-after-year without considering students. Dubinski hopes the campaign will encourage universities to review services they offer. She hopes the province will also think about mental health before increasing fees and decreasing funding for services.
