Firefighters from Liverpool responded to another fire on the former HMCS Protecteur.
The fire was reported around 3:15 yesterday afternoon at the Port Mersey Commercial Park in Brooklyn, where the former naval vessel is being dismantled.
This is the third fire in three months on the vessel.
Liverpool Fire Chief Stephen Parnell says workers were using cutting torches and sparks caused some residual fuel in one of the ship’s tanks to ignite.
Black smoke could be seen from several kilometres away.
Parnell says 49 firefighters from Liverpool, North Queens, Greenfield and Port Medway were on scene for roughly two-and-a-half hours to completely extinguish the fire.
There were no injuries.
