Bank of Montreal has confirmed they will close their Lunenburg branch this summer.
Regional Vice President with BMO Lee Winchester says the move will make serving their customers easier by centralizing their resources in the Mahone Bay and Bridgewater branches.
He says an ATM and drop box will be installed in Lunenburg.
Winchester says the move to digital and online banking is accelerating.
“We know that there’s a migration in the way people are doing things today than before. That trend is going to continue probably at a much faster pace.”
He says the aim is to improve customer sevice.
“When we look at these decisions we always evaluate our footprint in terms of, you know – given the age of our older branches then the new facilities, we believe customers can be better served in newer and larger locations.”
Winchester says most employees from Lunenburg will move to the Mahone Bay branch and no jobs are going to be lost when the branch closes.
