Scientist, conservationist and UN messenger of peace, Dr. Jane Goodall has died at the age of 91.
According to the Dr. Jane Goodall Institute, she died peacefully in her sleep while in California for her United States speaking tour.
“Dr. Goodall’s life and work not only made an indelible mark on our understanding of chimpanzees and other species, but also of humankind and the environments we all share. She inspired curiosity, hope and compassion in countless people around the world, and paved the way for many others — particularly young people who gave her hope for the future.”
Meantime, condolences have been pouring in.
The United Nations says, “she worked tirelessly for our planet and all its inhabitants, leaving an extraordinary legacy for humanity and nature.”
Prime Minister Mark Carney says Dr. Goodall changed the way we understand animals and – and our own humanity.
