Air Canada will begin cancelling flights Thursday ahead of a possible strike by its flight attendants on Saturday.
The union has issued a 72-hour strike notice, while the airline has responded with its own lockout notice, setting the stage for a complete halt to both Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge operations.
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce says air travel disruptions would affect not only passengers, but also critical cargo services for pharmaceuticals, perishables, and other key goods.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business warns that small businesses are particularly vulnerable to supply chain delays and reduced tourism spending. Both organizations are urging a negotiated settlement but say federal intervention should be considered if talks collapse.
Air Canada is offering full refunds and rebooking options for passengers. Regional affiliates such as Jazz and PAL Airlines will continue to operate, though their coverage is limited.
