Brad Marchand has another Stanley Cup.
The 37-year-old from Hammonds Plains played a big role in Florida’s six-game Cup win over Edmonton.
He scored 10 goals and 20 points during the 2025 playoffs after coming over in a trade from the Boston Bruins in March.
He’s now a veteran, and won his second championship 14 years after his first one as a rookie with the Bruins in 2011.
Marchand’s cousin Matt Brown helps run Sackville Flyers Minor Hockey, where the Panthers forward played growing up.
He says there was a gathering of about 30 at Marchand’s parents house to watch Game 6.
“The pride and enthusiasm in that room watching that game, and seeing him have that success after all the years he’s put in, it’s incredible and we couldn’t be more proud of him,” said Brown.
Brown is the vice-president of the U7 division for the minor hockey association, and adds that players like Marchand, Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon have put the area on the map.
“It’s great to see these guys be successful in an area that’s a tenth of the size as some of their counterparts in the country. All have won Stanley Cups, some have Olympic and other international gold medals.”
When Marchand won in 2011, he held a parade in downtown Halifax.
Brown says it’s too early to know this year’s plans, but they can’t wait to celebrate with him.
