The RCMP hopes modern technology can shed light on an unsolved hit and run.
Police say it happened on March 27, 1985, near 97 Wellington Street in Pictou.
Anthony (Tony) Burke, 29, was at a home on the street for a gathering with friends but left after there was a fight in the home. He left on foot and was hit and killed by the driver. The vehicle drove off.
A driver stopped and attended to Burke before he died of his injuries at the side of the road. The witness said the car looked like a blue AMC Gremlin.
Lead investigator RCMP Const. Daniel Ronaghan took over the case in November.
“We’re retesting to see if there’s anything we can use modern technology against that wasn’t available in 1985, DNA being one of them,” said Ronaghan.
Ronaghan said they believe the car is still somewhere in the province. They are releasing a video about the case in hopes that someone will come forward with more information in the case.
Burke’s daughter was 12 at the time. Now Shauna Collier has a message for the killer.
“Whatever your reasons, you left Tony dead, defenseless and because of that choice I’ve had to live my life without him. Do you ever think about what you did? Do you ever wonder about the daughter you hurt? His family, his mother who died a broken heart, mourning her son?” said Collier.
“I think about the moments lost, the memories stolen from me. It took him away from me before I even got a chance to know him.”
