You’ll soon start to see progress on the new QEII Halifax Infirmary tower.
The province says the main construction phase for the 14-floor building will start in May, including foundation work.
Health minister Michelle Thompson says it’s an exciting milestone.
“Nova Scotians are another step closer to a new, modern acute care tower with more beds and operating rooms, and a larger emergency department in the Halifax Infirmary to deliver more care, faster for generations to come,” said Thompson.
The facility is expected to open in 2031.
It will also feature a satellite diagnostic imaging department in the emergency department, new and upgraded lab spaces and additional treatment spaces.
The total cost of construction to opening and 30-year maintenance of the building is over $7.4 billion.
