Canadian school buses are about to be outfitted with new cameras that should help improve safety.
They will be a series of cameras mounted to the outside of the bus that will allow drivers to see if anyone is around before driving off.
Transport Minister Anita Anand says it is for when the bus is stopped or travelling slowly.
This way, drivers will be able to see more than what mirrors alone can provide.
Canada will become the first country in the world to require new school buses to have this technology, which will go into effect November 1, 2027.
The federal government also introduced requirements to install an infraction camera that would capture a picture of any vehicle passing a bus, illegally.
These measures follow a 2020 report on school bus safety which recommended new measures to protect children on the outside of the bus.
