Last week we learned that the provincial government decided to shut down most visitor information centres and some museums. What you might not know is that another statement was released yesterday about more closures affecting museums in our community!
The Ross Thomson House — Shelburne
Barrington Woolen Mill — Barrington Passage
Wile Carding Mill — Bridgewater
Perkins House Museum — Liverpool
These have all been staples of South Shore tourism and culture, but according to the province, these sites—along with the others that were previously announced—only account for 3 percent of the total attendance across the Nova Scotia Museum system.

I personally think it’s incredibly short‑sighted and a real shame. The history of these buildings and properties should be preserved, and now that will be harder if communities have to do it by themselves.
