Since the 1960s, people have been turning on their TVs—especially around the holidays—to watch a fireplace. This all started in New York City back in 1966 with the Yule Log broadcast on WPIX! It ran for 23 years commercial-free and was originally created to give TV station staff a night off and provide people who lived in apartments the chance to experience a fireplace.
Years later, the virtual fire is still a huge draw every year! Netflix’s Fireplace for Your Home once ranked in the platform’s Top 10, beating major shows like The Crown and Young Sheldon during the holidays. There are also themed fireplaces now—from Star Wars to ones featuring cats and dogs lounging on the hearth!
