Moosehead Breweries will give its familiar green bottle a proper send-off.
The Canadian-owned company says it will stop selling its beer in glass bottles beginning next year due to consumer preference.
In a release, they say only 7% of beer in Canada is sold in bottles, while 85% is sold in cans, up from 65% just five years ago.
Moosehead says among reasons for the shift is that the can offers superior protection against light and oxygen, which degrade beer quality.
The final run of bottles on the Moosehead production line will take place in December.
According to the brewer, “Canadians can expect to see Moosehead bottles on-shelf into early 2026 in limited quantities. International shipments of bottles ended this summer.”
To mark this moment in brewing history, Moosehead is launching the “The Last Bottle” contest.
Canadians are invited to share their stories “demonstrating why their Moosehead fandom stands above the rest.”
The winner will travel to Moosehead Breweries in Saint John, NB to witness the very last bottle run, tour the historic brewery, and take home the final bottle itself, directly off the line.
The entry deadline is October 27th.
