Truro Police are alerting the public that George Durling, 57, has been released from custody and is now residing in the community under strict conditions.
Durling recently finished serving a two-year prison sentence for multiple offences, including distribution of child pornography, publishing child pornography, failure to comply with probation orders, and harassing and indecent communication.
Police say many of these crimes involved sending sexually explicit texts and calls to random phone numbers in both Truro and Maitland.
He also has a criminal history that includes probation sentences for sexual assault in Manitoba in 1992, assault in Truro in 2019, and an indecent act in Truro in 2022.
As part of his release, Durling is subject to several restrictions.
He is not allowed near children under 16, and cannot go to places where children are reasonably expected to be present, such as schools, playgrounds, parks, or community centres. He is also prohibited from taking any job or volunteer position that places him in a position of trust or authority over minors. He cannot have contact with anyone under 16 unless supervised by a court-approved adult.
Police say they will be conducting regular compliance checks to ensure Durling is following his conditions.
The information was released under Nova Scotiaβs high-risk offender protocol to keep residents informed, but police stress it is not intended to encourage vigilante action or any unreasonable conduct.
