The Town of Lunenburg says horses with Trot In Time Carriage Tours are being looked after appropriately, following inspections and reports prompted by public concerns.
Earlier this year, the operator submitted documents outlining how horses are cared for in hot and humid conditions. In August, at the town’s request, a veterinarian conducted a detailed inspection of the horses, their workload, and their living conditions. The report found the horses were healthy, properly maintained, and up to date on veterinary care. It also noted protocols are in place to prevent overheating during the summer.
A separate inspection from the provincial Department of Agriculture in July reached a similar conclusion, describing the operation as well-managed and the horses as being in excellent condition.
The town says it will continue to monitor the situation but is confident the business is currently operating within safe standards. Council has also directed staff to review the Hack and Trolley By-law in the coming months, comparing it with regulations in other jurisdictions.
