The Town of Mahone Bay is urging residents to voluntarily reduce water consumption as the prolonged hot, dry weather continues.
Officials say water levels in the town’s watershed have dropped significantly, and without prolonged rainfall soon, mandatory restrictions may have to be introduced.
For now, residents are being asked to avoid watering lawns, washing vehicles, taking long showers, or running small loads of laundry or dishes. The town says it understands some residents are hosting friends or family whose wells have run dry, but stresses that conserving the community’s supply is important for everyone.
Those living in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg or the Municipality of the District of Chester can contact their local offices for support if they are experiencing dry wells.
Town officials are encouraging everyone to do their part to help avoid more severe measures later in the season.
