Air Canada flight attendants are rallying at airports across the country today in what their union is calling a National Day of Action.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) says members are gathering in uniform at Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver airports to highlight key bargaining issues, including wages and rules around non-working hours.
The demonstrations come as CUPE’s bargaining committee returns to the table with Air Canada this week. The union says public displays of solidarity send a message to the employer that members are united in pushing for a fair contract.
Earlier this summer, more than 10,000 flight attendants voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action. A walkout could take place as early as August 16 if no agreement is reached.
Air Canada has not publicly commented on today’s demonstrations but has said it remains committed to reaching a negotiated settlement.
