Two people have been charged after an RCMP officer was injured during a hit-and-run involving a suspected impaired driver in Chester.
Lunenburg District RCMP say it happened just before 9 a.m. on July 7, when officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in a parking lot on Highway 3.
An officer approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, who showed signs of impairment.
Police say the driver then suddenly sped off, dragging the officer into a nearby police car. The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
According to police, the fleeing vehicle sideswiped another car and later crashed into a guardrail after failing to make a turn from Highway 14 onto Highway 103.
A man and a woman tried to run away but were arrested a short time later.
Both were remanded into custody and appeared in Bridgewater Provincial Court on July 8.
The man is facing several charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, flight from police, and impaired driving while prohibited. The woman has been charged with resisting arrest.
