Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has confirmed another sighting of an entangled North Atlantic right whale in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, near Morell, Prince Edward Island.
The whale, identified as #5132, is a juvenile male born in 2021.
It was first observed entangled in fishing gear off the coast of North Carolina in December 2024. Since then, it has been sighted multiple times, including a recent observation near Les Escoumins in the St. Lawrence Estuary on May 27.
Relocation efforts by DFO are ongoing, and if the whale is located again under suitable conditions, a disentanglement attempt will be made by the Campobello Whale Rescue Team, part of the Marine Mammal Response network.
Officials are reminding the public not to approach any rescue operation if one is in progress.
More updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
