Doctors Nova Scotia has announced new leadership for the year ahead, with Dr. Shelly McNeil of Halifax installed as the association’s President for 2025–26.
Dr. McNeil is an infectious diseases specialist based in Halifax. She provides inpatient consultations at the QEII Health Sciences Centre and IWK Health, and sees patients in ambulatory clinics at the Dickson Building and the Bayers Lake Outpatient Centre.
In addition to her clinical work, she holds a senior leadership role with Nova Scotia Health as the Senior Medical Director of the Emerging and Re-emerging Infections Network. This group oversees the province’s response to infectious disease threats, including COVID-19 and other emerging illnesses.
Dr. McNeil previously led the COVID-19 Planning and Implementation Network, coordinating Nova Scotia Health’s pandemic response. As President of Doctors Nova Scotia, she plans to focus on stabilizing primary care by advocating for team-based, family physician–led care models across the province.
Dr. Amanda MacDonald Green, a family physician practicing in Windsor, was also voted in as President-Elect. She will assume the presidency in June 2026, following the completion of Dr. McNeil’s term.
