Downtown Bridgewater is set for a major celebration on Saturday as the Downtown Bridgewater Business Committee and the Town of Bridgewater team up to host a free event showcasing the area’s restaurants, shops, and local talent.
Running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the event will stretch from King Street across the river to the South Shore Centre, with activities designed to get people exploring both sides of downtown. More than 20 restaurants are participating in a special “tastes of downtown” promotion, offering $5 sample dishes throughout the day.
“We’re kind of encouraging people to park the car, walk both sides of the river, see what downtown Bridgewater has to offer,” said Sandra Whitme, chair of the Downtown Bridgewater Business Committee.
Entertainment will include live music, acapella groups, and school bands, along with unique performances like a tree that reads stories to children and a Zen-style tank drum player. Pop-up games and art installations will also be set up between businesses to make the route more engaging for families.
No admission fee is required, and streets will remain open to emphasize how walkable the downtown area already is. Organizers say rain is not expected to cancel the event, though some activities may shift indoors if needed.
The event is part of a broader effort by the business committee to draw more foot traffic to downtown Bridgewater and support both new and long-standing businesses.
“It’s about encouraging people to come through doors they haven’t walked through before,” Whitme said. “There’s something for everyone.”
