CUPE Nova Scotia has elected Alan Linkletter as its new president, following the retirement of longtime leader Nan McFadgen.
McFadgen, who served in the role for nearly a decade, stepped down this week. In a statement, she called it a bittersweet moment and said she was confident Linkletter would continue the fight to protect public services and support local communities.
Linkletter is a member of CUPE 8920, which represents acute care health workers across the province. He’s spent the past 16 years involved in the labour movement and is a former vice-president of both CUPE Nova Scotia and his local.
“It’s an honour that my fellow CUPE Nova Scotia members believe in me and my experience in the labour movement,” Linkletter said. “Nan has built a solid foundation for us to continue the work, and I will do my best to support and lift up CUPE Nova Scotia members province wide.”
