The province is sending a crew of 20 firefighters, as well as one representative from the Department of Natural Resources to Saskatchewan to help fight out-of-control wildfires.
Members will fly out of Halifax Stanfield International Airport, at 4:30 p.m., Thursday.
In a news release, Minister Tory Rushton says there are numerous fires threatening people’s homes and livelihoods.
“We all remember the deep impact and scars that wildfires can have on our communities. I thank all Nova Scotians for following the daily burn restrictions – that is helping keep our wildfire season manageable here at home and allows us to send our crew out west,” says Rushton.
The province says considering the current condition of the wildfires here in Nova Scotia, our resources can be shared.
If they are needed here, crews can return home early if necessary.
This marks the first time crews from Nova Scotia have been sent to western Canada to battle wildfires so far this season.
Last year, firefighters were deployed across Canada six times.
