Lunenburg Town Council has approved its 2025–26 budget, holding the line on property tax rates while moving ahead with several key projects.
The town’s $11.32 million operating budget will keep residential and commercial tax rates the same. That means the rate stays at $1.376 per $100 of assessment for homes and $3.358 for businesses. However, individual tax bills may still shift based on changes to property assessments.
Some of the major projects in this year’s budget include repairs to Pelham Street, new sidewalks near the daycare on Starr Street, and upgrades to Town Hall and Lunenburg Academy. Accessibility improvements at the Bandstand are also planned.
Council has set aside $4.69 million for capital work, including spending on roads, recreation, and public services.
Sewer bills will rise slightly—by about $16 a year for most homes—to help cover maintenance costs.
On the utility side, the town plans to replace the aging dam at Dares Lake and install water meters in homes across Lunenburg. These projects are part of a $2.2 million water system upgrade.
Lunenburg’s electric system will also see improvements, with $3.24 million going toward upgrades to help support new developments and improve service reliability.
Electricity rates remain the same for now, but could change after a provincial hearing this summer.
