The RCMP has arrested a man after two tractors were allegedly stolen in the province.
On May 5, Colchester RCMP got a call that something was stolen from a business in Onslow, according to a news release.
Police learned a lawn tractor was stolen from the yard early in the morning on May 4. Surveillance video showed what appeared to be a black Ford Ranger entering the yard.
On May 10, police got a call about another lawn tractor that was stolen overnight from a fenced-in yard in Stewiacke.
On May 15, there was a similar third incident, reported by a business in Brookfield. Gates and locks were damaged in the business’s enclosed yard but nothing was taken. However, based on items at the scene and surveillance video, police identified the suspect as a man from Dartmouth.
Later on that day at 10:30 a.m., a person approached RCMP in Fall River and reported a suspected impaired driver.
Police found a black Ford Ranger on Highway 2 at Fletchers Lake and tried to stop it. The driver attempted to flee but officers used their cruisers to force the truck into a ditch, the release says.
The driver, a 40-year-old man from Dartmouth, was arrested and faces nine charges, including:
- two counts of theft over $5000
- two counts of breaking and entering
- flight from a peace officer
- dangerous driving
- failing to comply with a probation order
- forcible confinement, which means holding someone against their will
He was also issued summary offence tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act and Revenue Act.
There was a passenger in the truck at the time. They were arrested but released without charges.
The man remains in custody and will appear in court at a later date.
