The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg is directing more than $150,000 in funding to community organizations through its 2025–26 grant programs. The money is being distributed to support both daily operations and capital projects across the district.
This year, $99,701 was awarded to 43 non-profit groups through the Annual Operating Grant Program. These funds help cover basic costs such as utilities, insurance, program delivery, and staffing.
In addition, $52,359 was allocated through the Major Recreation Capital Grant Program. This supports larger one-time investments like building repairs, accessibility upgrades, and facility improvements.
Examples of approved funding include:
-
SHAID Tree Shelter Society received $3,300 to help care for animals and cover essential expenses.
-
South Shore Bluegrass Music Association was granted $3,100 to support its ongoing programming and community events.
-
Lunenburg Academy Foundation received two grants — one for operations and another toward a major roof replacement project.
-
Parkdale Maplewood Community Centre was approved for both operational funds and support to improve its wheelchair ramp and kitchen facilities.
-
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 in Bridgewater received $9,240 to help retrofit its elevator, improving accessibility for visitors.
Mayor Elspeth McLean-Wile said council is committed to supporting the volunteers and organizations that keep local communities vibrant. MODL staff will contact each group directly with updates on their applications.
