It was a really exciting Tuesday night for a Halifax-area dance group who made their national debut.
Studio 26 Dance Company got a ‘yes’ from three judges on Canada’s Got Talent to get them one step closer to the semi-final round.
Representative Alyssa Thomas tells us it wasn’t easy keeping it quiet for so many months.
“It was hard with that many kids and that many parents to make sure that everybody kept it a secret. But they did a good job,” says Thomas.

She flew to Toronto audition for the competition in October alongside 75 dancers, which according to Thomas, was really nerve wracking.
“We were backstage. We got to watch the performance from the side, so we were happy about that. Then they got the ‘no’ from Howie [Mandel],” says Thomas.
“Then they actually had us leave and go out into the lobby, so we didn’t know what the outcome was. They wanted us to greet them when they came out. They came out really excited.”
At that point, Thomas says, they knew the dancers had made it through, but waiting for that moment felt like an “eternity”.
She adds, the dancer’s energy level was “through the roof” and they celebrated all weekend.

Watching the show Tuesday night, Thomas says was really exciting.
“We were all on Zoom, watching it together. So, I was watching all the kids’ reactions and seeing their faces and they were so happy and excited. I was crying. It was a whole thing,” says Thomas.
In addition to the dance group, also representing the Maritimes on the show was singer Dee Dee Austin.
She is from Nova Scotia as well as Prince Edward Island and made it through with the golden buzzer last month with an original song, Buried Truth.
It sent her to the next round and awarded her $25,000.
The dance crew still has to remain tight-lipped about whether or not they will actually appear on the semi-finals.
