A friend called me yesterday with a question. It wasn’t a tough question, but I didn’t have an answer.
Have you seen any coins with King Charles on them?
Last fall, there was a lot made of the transition to King Charles coins. The official portrait was chosen for the coins, facing left instead of right as the Queen had. There was a pre-release in November, there were news reports of people lining up at the mint to purchase special sets of coins being released. And there were more stories in December about a limited release of the new coins.
I found this out trying to find out if they had even been released. There were stories online that they were going to be slowly put into circulation.
Making money isn’t a real cheap process, so you expect it might take some time, but exactly how limited was this release.
I know I haven’t seen and coins with King Charles on them. I haven’t found anyone who has. I did speak to one person in retail who thought that maybe, just maybe, she had seen a roll of something in the cash that had the king on them. But she wasn’t really sure.
I didn’t expect it to be quick. But I expected to see one or two show up by now.
