I got press releases on a regular basis. It comes with just working here. People try to get you to talk about them and their products, so they send out information in the hope you might mention them.
There was a press release that I got today reminding me about a press release that came earlier. It was about how much website traffic is generated by puzzle pages for news organizations. Which really isn’t all that puzzling.
That fact that people like puzzles isn’t really surprising. That’s been happening for many years. Maybe not always online, but a number of people have long gravitated to puzzles in newspapers. People enjoy them and they tend to draw traffic. Enough that there are entire books of puzzles published on a regular basis.
I will admit I enjoy puzzles. I always did the morning crossword in the paper to start my day. I’ve gotten away from that, mostly because I found them too repetitive with their answers and weren’t really presenting me with much of a challenge. Yet other crosswords might present too much of a challenge. There is a balance. And much of it is in my head. And how said head works while trying to soak up enough caffeine to start the day.
I did get into the Wordle craze when that started. I’m still doing that. Some are more challenging than others, and I do enjoy that.
So people going to news pages to play their puzzle games doesn’t really shock me. Seeing as how I am one of the people.
But we’re all different, and I’m sure, as with most things, we don’t all like the same thing. But I do like a little something in the morning that just seems to jump start the brain.
I take no responsibility for where it runs off to after that, but at least it gets started on the right foot.
