Provincial burn restrictions are in effect once again. It’s a good thing, although it can also be a bit annoying for some.
The easy way to check what restrictions for your county is to check the online map. Except if you happen to be in spot where you don’t have internet access. Or you can call the phone number. Which can also present other issues.
I have a spot near a lake where I have no internet. I like to clean up any fallen sticks and branches this time of year and have a little fire. On a nice evening, it could turn into a bit of a campfire. There could even be some s’mores involved. As long as I can find out what the burn restrictions are.
Since I have no reliable internet access, I could call the number. Except I never remember to write the number down. It might be in a phone book. Remember those? They aren’t easy to find these days. They aren’t delivered to those with land lines as the once were. You just have to be lucky to find them and grab one while they are available.
I haven’t found for several years now, so the one I have where I might like to have a fire far predates the number I have to call if I want to have a fire. So I end up calling someone I know and hope to get them to check for me.
Then, once you find out if the restrictions say you can have a fire, you have to hope the wind isn’t blowing or it isn’t raining.
Still, I like having a fire now and then. There’s just something about it. There’s also something special about anything that gets cooked over it. So it’s worth taking the time to check, which only takes a second. And can keep you out of trouble.
If you’re wondering, and you don’t have internet access handy, the number is 1-855-564-2876.
Maybe I should write it down.
