I happened on a post the other day where a person said they were obsessed with fork tynes. He hated to see bent ones. And he admitted it’s a thing with him. When he sees bent tynes on a fork, he has to straighten them.
I king of chuckled then realized, I have my own compulsions. Light switches, for one. I hate to see lights on with no one around. To the point where I seem to be constantly following people around the house, turning lights off after they have turned them on.
There will be the usual comments along the lines of “I was going back in there”. To which my reply is that the switch works both ways. It’s easy to turn on when you go in a room, and just as easy to turn off when you leave. It’s just one of those things with me.
Sure, it drives people around me crazy some times, but I don’t mind. In some strange way I almost enjoy doing that. It gives me some sort of perverse pleasure to bother others.
But we probably all have out little quirks. With luck, we live in a situation where they balance out. Like me, living with people who like to turn lights on. I like to think it works quite well to have a person around who likes to turn them off. It’s like it was meant to be.
The guy with the fork compulsion? I might have to invite him to drop by. I have a few in the drawer that could use straightening. Now that he’s drawn my attention to it.
