I will admit that’s it fun to think about, but I’ve never really been a “fly south” type of person. I know a lot of people are, but it never has really made sense to me.
Part of that is I really don’t mind winter that much. The older I get, the more I don’t like being cold, but I still can’t justify a trip south. I can come up with a lot of reasons why. Not all of them make sense, although they do to me.
Partially is the expense. Yes, I will admit to being a bit on the cheap side. I hate spending money I don’t really need to spend. And for the price of a trip south, I could afford to crank the heat a little bit and toss some sand around the living room.
And I can’t get over the fact you have to come back. Yes, you get away from the cold and, maybe, snow for a week or so, but it will be here when you get back. So it’s only a short reprieve. not really a full on cure.
Then you hear all the travel horror stories that have been popping up lately. Cancelled flights, lost luggage, people being stranded… it doesn’t exactly give you confidence.
I also like to think of myself as not really a lay in the sun type. The idea of going some other place seems nice, as long as I have things to do when I get there. Although I say that, and I tend to spend lots of time sleeping in the sun during out summers.
Like I say, I can come up with lots of reasons not to go. Maybe not great reasons, but still reasons.
So my winter vacation is far more likely to involve turning up the heat and stretching out om the sofa. I might have to pay for my drinks, but the food’s pretty good. And I know where my suitcase is.
