There was a bit of frost on the car windows this morning. Not a lot, but enough to make me scrape.
I sometimes will hit the remote start to melt things off, but I’ll be honest. I feel a bit guilty. The whole unnecessary idling thing. But some times I do it anyway. But most times I scrape.
There are a lot of things you can use to get frost of the windshield. You can even get liquids to squirt on and make the frost go away. I still prefer the scraper. Or some version of it.
The thing I really like to use was never intended to scrape a windshield. I’ve had plenty of actual scrapers and never found one I like. They really don’t conform to the curves of vehicle windows and can be pretty annoying to get all the little bits of frost from being in front of your face.
My favourite device is actually a card. We all have plenty of them around. Old customer loyalty cards and used gift cards tend to work pretty good. They might be small, but they tend to bend to the shape of the windows well and they do a pretty good job. Some might not last very long, depending on the frost you’re trying to scrape, but there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of the things. Although I will admit that some places look at me a bit funny when I ask for me used gift card back. There are even stranger looks when I tell them what I use them for.
But it’s a way to reuse something that would otherwise just get tossed. Sure, it will still get tossed, but it has a bit of a second life along the way. But the best part is, they work to get the frost off.
Although that remote starter does keep calling my name.
