The big evening is coming up Sunday. New Years Eve.
Again this year, I will be making my usual New Years resolution. It’s the only one I’ve ever kept, which is one reason I keep renewing it each year. It’s pretty simple. I resolve to not make any New Years resolutions.
I never really kept them anyway. I tried making a few over the years. I was going to quit smoking, or loose weight, or get in better shape, or do something new with my life. None of them really stuck. At least not as New Years resolutions.
I did most of them, but for other, much better reasons.
I did quit smoking. After I had a heart attack and a steady stream of doctors kept telling me I really should. That finally stuck.
I lost weight. But that was because I got tired of not being able to breath when I tied my shoes. I figured I had two choices on that one. Loafers or loose weight. With most loafers you still have to bend over to put them on, so I went with losing weight.
So most of the common resolutions I have done. Just not at New Years and not as resolutions. And I found it worked much better that way.
So again this year, I resolve not to make any resolutions. At least I know I can cross that one off my list right away.
