It’s that dead period between Christmas and New Years. Everything seems to have stopped. Some thing got finished up before the holidays kicked in, and it’s to early to start anything major. And a lot of people seem to take the time off, if they can.
Honestly, it’s one of my favourite times of year to work. I suppose it might be different for those working retail. You make it through the busy rush to Christmas, then get get with the rush of Boxing Day, or Boxing Week as it has now become. But for many, it’s a time of year when a lot doesn’t get accomplished.
Which I one of the reasons I like this time of year. You can catch up on things that you’ve been trying to get to for the past few weeks. There are very ew people around to bother you or distract you. So it gives you a chance to get things done, but in a fairly relaxed atmosphere.
People have asked why I don’t take time off over the holidays. Really, I’d rather be at work. Mostly because everyone else has taken time off. It makes it fairly relaxing.
Sure, maybe I don’t get a lot done this time of year, because there isn’t as much to do in many ways. But I’m out from underfoot at home and getting something accomplished, just with less pressure.
Yes, I may be hiding by coming to work. Many people may be sitting around, confused as to what day it is and wondering how they have eaten so much over the past few days. I’m trying to kid myself that I’m actually doing something, when really, I’m about one step away from having my feet up watching the hockey game.
And if there is a hockey game, I could be watching at work. It is my job to keep u0p on what’s going on in the world. And I can do it here without the grandchildren drowning out the TV.
