It was almost a major change. Almost. We almost switched from being an angel family, to being a star family. Not that it would have made a huge difference to me.
I came from a star family. We always had a star on top of the tree when I was a kid. But the first year I was married, my wife found a really nice angel to grace the top of out tree.
I liked the angel. She had lights inside her and was carrying a light in her hands and looked pretty good sitting up at the top of that tree. But she’s looking a bit worse for wear.
The angel has had a good run, but there are issues. The biggest is the fact there are scorch marks on the inside of the angel. At some point the lights seemed to have gotten a bit out of hand and tried to burn her, but she resisted. But the scorch marks do sort of make you a bit nervous. Seeing as how you’re putting this thing on top of a tree which I am likely to forget to water and turn into a fire hazard.
But this year, my wife was thinking about making a change. She had found a star. It’s an unlit star, made of some sort of glass. Very shiny and nice looking. So she was going to try it on the top of the tree. However, the tree said no. Or at least the top branches of the tree said no, as they bowed their little heads and refused to hold up the star.
So it was back to the angel. Her inner lights have been replaced with other lights, but we have decided it might be best to leave her unlit for the time being. She still looks pretty good, sitting at the top of the tree.
And from most angles, you can hardly notice the scorch marks.
