The season is upon us. I noticed this morning as I drove to work. ‘Tis the season for salt to gather on the windshield. Which means we are at the time of year when you have to keep your windshield washer fluid topped up.
For years, it was one of my pet peeves that many car manufacturers didn’t make the washer fluid reservoir the same size as a jug of fluid. There was always that little bit left over that just wouldn’t fit in there. Either that, or I was being far too careful pouring the stuff and wasn’t spilling enough.
A lot of the manufacturers seemed to have cured that. My current vehicle will actually hold an entire jug of windshield washer fluid. I think. I’m no0t really sure, because I can’t really see the thing that holds it. That’s buried somewhere in the depths of the engine compartment. But I can pour an entire jug in there. Wherever it’s going.
Although if you try to keep ahead of it and keep the tank topped up, you’ll still end up with partial jugs of fluid around.
I know that over the years I have collected many partial jugs of windshield washer fluid. A number of people have mentioned that the issue could be solved if they had bulk windshield washer fluid, sort of like a gas pump. You just pump what you need and pay the price. Instead of developing a huge collection of almost empty jugs.
But that’s one of my tasks for the weekend. Scour the house looking for those almost empty jugs and dump them all into the reservoir in my car. I know there are a lot of those almost empty jugs hiding around the house. It’s time I put them to use.
And time to top up the washer fluid.
