On rare occasions, I actually feel ahead of the game. Not often, but I feel that way now. Simply because my snow tires are on.
I have not always been a snow tire user. There were many years when I have thought I just don’t need them. They were an unnecessary expense, and all season tires were good enough. After all, they call them ALL season tires. They must be good for twelve months of the year.
Then, several years ago, I bit the bullet and got winter tires. I even went all the way and got rims for them, to make changing them over easier. Except for the fact I didn’t bother getting rims with sensors in them and that stupid tire pressure light keeps driving me nuts all winter long, it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
And there was one mechanic who gave me a solution for the tire pressure light. Put a piece of duct tape over it. Which I guess is a solution. Of sorts.
But the winter tires made a lot of difference. I also switched to an all wheel drive vehicle at the same time, so it seemed like a huge difference. Much better traction. Although it made doing donuts in local parking lots much more difficult, if not downright impossible. But I guess that’s a good thing. If a lot less fun.
So all that convinced me that winter tires are a good idea, and I’ve had them ever since. Although I will admit that I usually wait to put them on until we have our first snow fall. Then I panic a bit and hurry to get the changed over.
This year, I’ve got them done already. That little bit of snow a couple weeks ago that melted almost as soon as it hit the ground really doesn’t count as snowfall in my books, so I really am ahead of the game.
And if a miss the donuts that bad, I’ll just stick to the kind you eat. It’s safer that way. Just don’t tell my doctor.
