Here we are again. Another time change weekend with no change to the change. Although some places have at least gone through the motions, nothing really gets done.
When politicians get asked about doing away with the time change, you tend to get answers, like “It’s really not a priority.” Which really translates into the fact that they don’t think it will cost them votes or financial contributions, so no one really cares. Or you will hear that we can’t do it by ourselves and be out of step with the rest of the world.
Actually, we could do it by ourselves. Saskatchewan seems to get along just fine without a time change. Just saying.
There have been bills passed in some places that basically say they will stop the time change when a couple others in the world do the same thing. In other words, the buck has been passed.
I don’t really care one way or the other. The time change doesn’t really bother me much, although I know there are those that do get thrown by it.
Sleep experts will say we should stay on standard time because it is closer to our natural body rhythm. I would rather see us stick with daylight saving time if we ever come to the point of not changing. That way we get more daylight in the evening, which would be my preference.
But the time change seems to have become one of those things like the weather. Everyone talks about it, but no one does anything.
